Damara Carpenter

Damara Carpenter was born in 1991, in rural Arkansas. She is self taught and has been drawing since childhood. Her inspirations are wide ranging, but she has always been captivated by all things mystical, magical, and in her work there is generally a focus on female mythical and literary figures. Much of her work also consists of imagery that comes from her own personal interests, like vultures, and birds in general. She wants much of her art to convey a mystical feeling even if the subject matter is seemingly mundane. She is largely influenced by PreRaphaelite and Symbolist artists and illustrators of the 19th century.

Damara’s style typically incorporates figurative realism mostly accomplished by controlled pencil work, sometimes broken up with more unpredictable media like watercolor. However, she does experiment with different mediums and doesn’t want to feel bound to one specific style. Damara’s art is held in private collections all over the world and has been working with the 78 Tarot Project since 2014. She won best in show at the Newport Art Festival in 2022 with her drawing “Circe.”

She currently lives in Wales with her husband and enjoys singing, and watching 90s sitcoms and Animated films. Music is also a passion of hers and she has quite eclectic musical interests which range from pop, hiphop, to traditional Celtic, Middle Eastern, Medieval, and Indian.
